Day 3: Drive Time
Feb. 8th, 2007 04:18 am Today I'm in Los Angeles. Getting here was half the fun though.
I had wanted to leave relatively early this morning, so that I could get a few sets of pictures on the way up. Dad and I ended up doing a few things in the morning. For starters, Molly had to be taken in to the vet for a dip. Normally she can handle mites and other assorted vermin (if Dad relandscapes, I hope he puts in some dwarfed silver dollar eucalyptus, those trees seem to repel fleas) but since Dad was out of the house, she got stressed. Poor little thing, when I got there on Sunday she was showing obvious signs of being upset. By this morning however, she was much happier, noting that Dad and I were both there in the mornings. (For those of you who don't know, Molly is my dad's uber-spoiled Scottie dog.) We also had to wait for the phone guy. Dad also discovered that the cable guy had installed all the cables for cable TV--except for the one where the big TV set is going to go. Dad was PISSED.
Anyway, I get on the road around 10:30, around the time I was planning. The 15 wasn't too bad, so I got off in Escondido and took the pictures that I wanted to take yesterday: the old AT&SF depot that had been moved to the city's central park, and the Escondido City Hall. I got a good shot (I hope) up into the dome in the front; it's grilled ironwork, looks pretty. Not sure when the building was built though.
I then decided to head towards Hemet, then Perris, then to Riverside to lunch with Sharon. The regular way to get to Hemet from the south is to take 15 into Temecula, and then take Winchester Road (SR 79) up. Slight problem: Last time I took Winchester, it was a QUIET country road. Now, there's tons of development. Will it ever end? I finally decided enough was enough, and I bypassed Perris and ended up in Riverside.
I'm falling asleep here, I'll complete tomorrow.
