A young kid in Oxford, England has decided to take a stand. However instead of buying into the nonsense of People Eating Tasty Animals, he's realized thatsometimes, science does need live subjects. So he's standing up to the thugs that seem to control the UK animal rights movement.

The International Herald Tribune has an entertaining article on the topic: "A British youth takes on animal rights".

It looks like the drive is dead. I took the computer to an Apple Store to see what they could do, and all they said was "your drive has a S.M.A.R.T. failure" and that it's a physical problem. The techie (Apple's term is "Genius") said that data recovery can start at around $700. Who knows.

Right now I need to see what pictures actually survived the experience. Anything that predates the move from the G3 to the iMac was archived somewhere; I have copies of some of the pictures elsewhere. I lost the pictures that I took when I went to Grandpa's funeral, there weren't that many, and Dad took some as well.

I'll see what else is there. A lot of the BS downloads are gone, a good chunk of my archives are gone, and the pictures are gone. It pisses me off that the quality of these things are still as unpredictable as they always were, but at the same time, I should have been a little more vigilant about backing things up. (Unfortunately the pictures folder didn't make it onto the external drive; I thought it had.)

AAUGH!
